Week of Oct. 30-03 Nov.




This week we will begin learning about color black. We will be working on color black activities. The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on, are: bat, cat, gorilla, spider, tire, night, gorilla, and panther.(only 5 of these
 will be evaluated).

If you have any items at home that are color black, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Thursday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

On Friday the students will have ¨Black dress day¨ Please have your child wear a black piece of clothing. Thanks a lot for your involvement.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”

I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

Book Character Day is around the corner. We are going to be having a celebration on Tuesday, October 31st, We are going to make a trick or treat around the school classrooms,We will separate the candy you all sent this week and delivered them around the school. They are all very excited about this day and we would like to have something nice prepared for them.
Also the kids won't need to bring lunch box this day because they will be having a snack at school, so they won't need lunch.

Week of Oct. 19-23

Dear Parents,
This week we will be having many amazing activities. We will begin learning about color purple. We will be working on color purple activities. The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on are: grapes, plum, violet, eggplant

If you have any items at home that are color purple, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Thursday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

On Thursday the students will have ¨Purple dress day¨ Please have your child wear a purple piece of clothing. Thanks a lot for your involvement.

In our Science unit we will be talking about our FIVE SENSES. We will begin with this unit this week. Some of the vocabulary words we will be learning this week are: touch, smell, sight, hear, and taste. If you have anything about five Senses that you are willing to share with us, we would really appreciate it.

Book Character Day is around the corner. We are going to be having a celebration on Thursday, October 29th since there our UN Day celebration will be on Friday, October 30th. We are going to make a trick or treat around the school classrooms, for this, we are asking you cooperation with one bag of chocolates or candies and Lps. 50.00 (for the baskets) that should be hand in before Tuesday, Oct.27th. We will separate them and delivered them around the school. They are all very excited about this day and we would like to have something nice prepared for them.

This Friday Oct. 23rd we are having Parent-Teacher Conferences. You will be getting a note in your child´s folder stating the time that we have assigned each one of you. Please return this note signed on Wednesday. If you are unable to attend at the time that has been assigned for you let us know and we will work it out at a different time.


BOOK CHARACTER DAY - In keeping with Discovery School tradition, students are invited to dress up as his/her favorite book character. Your child should pick a book that he/she has read or that has been read to him/her. It should also be a book that was written before it became a movie or TV show. Please remember: NO SCARY COSTUMES! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will set up a live interactive museum on Thursday, October 29 which will last from 8:50-9:40 a.m. This will allow the younger students to come and learn about new book characters. Parents are welcome to come and meet all of the exciting characters and learn about some new books.

DPTO UN Day Preparations- The DPTO has begun on their preparations for our school UN DAY celebration on Friday, October 30, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. All school families are invited to participate and represent their country of origin. CHRISTIMAS BAZAAR- LOOKING FOR VENDORS- Discovery’s Helping Hands Club, a community service club that benefits the children of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage will be having a Christmas Bazaar.  Interested vendors should email, Discovery_bazaar@outlook.com.

ADVANCED EXTERNAL REVIEW TEAM VISIT- The school continues preparing for the AdvancED team visit October 18-22. The team has invited all parents for a meeting on Tuesday, October 20, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Early Childhood and Elementary parents will meet in the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the Middle and High School Parents will meet in Community Information Center. Please mark your calendars/agendas if you are interested in coming and being a part of this accreditation process.

NOCHE BENEFICIOSA – The Senior Class would like to invite you their fund raising activity this Thursday, October 22. The activity will take place in Pollo Tropical, located in Boulevard Juan Pablo II from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. All profits will go towards their Community Service project. Come and enjoy a nice dinner with your family and friends!

DISCOVERY SPORTS

Track and Field
We will be participating for the ABSH in Track & Field ,that will be held in San Pedro Sula.
It has been organized by the EIS( Escuela Internacional Sampedrana ,San Pedro Sula.This
event will take place on October 28-October 31.This event is only for Middle School and
High School students/athletes .

Basketball - We are getting ready for the ABSH Basketball tournament. This will take place at the American School of Tegucigalpa, from November 11 to November 14.  

Important Points: If parents or relatives would like to accompany us for support, they are welcome.


FUNDACION ABRIGO – Once again, Discovery School supports Fundación Abrigo in their mission to lodge families from the rural areas who come to Hospital Escuela. We are asking our school families to send 1 gallon of floor disinfectant per family, and to send it in by Friday, October 30. What a wonderful way to show our gratitude for what we have – to share what we have with those in need!

Week of Oct. 12-16

Dear Parents,

This will be a Review Week!!! We will be reviewing all the colors that we have studied so far with the corresponding vocabulary words introduced for each color.

This week we will be working our second author study which will be about Eric Carle. Eric Carle is an amazing author of the books we will be studying this week. His books are great to encourage creativity, art techniques, life cycles of butterflies and so many more great lessons. The best of it is that he writes in a very fun and friendly way to get children engaged to his stories.

Some of the stories for this week are:


This week in our science unit we will be talking about THE BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE. Some of the vocabulary words we will be learning this week are: butterfly, egg, caterpillar, cocoon, and pupa. If you have any poster or any other material that you are willing to share with the class, we would appreciate if you will let us borrow them from you.

We hope you enjoyed your very long weekend. For this week I will be needing that little request I had from last week. Which are empty and clean plastic bottles of any size with a twistable lid (at least 2 per child) and 1 empty and clean egg carton. I will appreciate a lot your help with these two little things.

Week of Oct.5-9




Dear Parents,
This week we will continue learning about color pink. We will be working on color pink activities.The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on are: pig, flamingo, cotton candy, rose, lips

We will continue with our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “This Little Piggy”
 I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. One will be using our hand and the other will be using our toes. Just perfect to also review our Science Theme!

This week we will continue talking about PARTS OF THE BODY. Some of the vocabulary words we will be learning this week are: head, mouth, eyes, ears, nose, feet, and hands.If you have any poster or any other material that you are willing to share with the class, we would appreciate if you will let us borrow them from you.














We hope you enjoy your very long weekend. I just have one little request. For the week we come back I will be needing empty and clean plastic bottles of any size WITH A TWISTABLE CAP (at least 2 per child) and 1 empty and clean egg carton. I will appreciate a lot for your help with these two little things. 




We would like to remind you all that because of the October Holidays, we will not have school on Oct. 7th, 8th, and 9th; school will resume on October 12th. We would like to wish all of you a safe and happy long holiday. Enjoy it to the maximum with your child.


Bricks4kidz ANNOUNCEMENT - Because of the changes in the October holidays, we would like to announce that the two remaining sessions of this first module of Bricks4kidz will be held on the following days:
Monday, October 5 – Session 3 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
Friday, October 16 – Session 4 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
We also want to give you a heads up that our second module will begin on the first week of November
