Week of March 14-18

Dear Nursery Parents,

This week we are going to start working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound. The first one we will be working with is the letter Aa. The vocabulary for this letter is: apple, ant, alligator, astronaut, ambulance.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the books we are going to be reading this week are the following:

The author tells the tale of a little boy who is sure that there is an alligator under his bed. Getting no sympathy from his parents who ``never saw it,'' he forms a plan of attack. He leaves a trail of food from his bed through the house to the garage door. He then follows behind as the alligator gobbles up the goodies, fresh vegetables, fruit, and even ``the last piece of pie,'' making its way to the garage. The boy then locks the door.

Two young sisters watch in fascination as their apple tree changes, from bare in winter to bursting with pink blossoms in spring, and as robins build a nest. When autumn comes, the small green apples have grown big enough for picking and for pie! The words we are going to be discussing from this book are: branch, blossoms, chirp, brim, guarding and delicious.

In math, will begin working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. We will begin working this week with number 1.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “The Ants Go Marching”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. Please provide your child with a water bottle every day. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms.

In Honduras we celebrate Father´s Day on March 19th. We would like to invite all of our DADDIES to have Donuts with your child on Friday March 18th at 8:00 a.m. We are planning on having something nice prepared for you. We hope you can come and spend some time with your child at school.

Easter is around the corner and we are planning to have our Easter Egg Hunt at Valentiona’s House located in El Hatillo Km8.2, Thursday, March 17th. We are planning to leave school at 8:00 a.m. and come back at 12:00 m.  You are more than welcome to go with us. If you are planning on going, please inform us by Wednesday, March 16th.

Also we are requesting for each child to bring 5 eggshells. The children will decorate them at school to take to the party. To do this, you simply make a hole with a needle at each end of the egg. Blow through one of the holes until all the egg white and yolk has come out. Please make sure that you clean them and have them sent to school completely dry. These eggshells should be in school by Tuesday, March 15th. If you can send more than 5 they are more than welcome.

This week’s Challenge at Home will be listening to songs that focus on the sound of letter a and throughout the week bring things from home that begin with the letter a.
