Week of Jan. 11-15

Dear Parents,
This week we will continue working and learning about the square. The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on are: napkin, dice, box, block, and cracker.

If you have any items at home that are with the shape of a square, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday, Jan. 15. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Row Row your boat”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Transportation. We are going to be discussing the different types of vehicles. Children will get the chance to name vehicles that travel by air, by land and by water. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: airplane, jet, boat, air balloon, car, van, bus, bicycle, motorcycle, ambulance, helicopter train, fire truck and rocket. If you have any books or posters, or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

SECOND QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES – Report Cards for the second quarter will be issued on Friday, January 15th. Conferences for this quarter are on a need basis. If you do not receive a notice from us but would like to meet for a conference, please contact us to set up a time for the afternoon of Friday, January 15th. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m, and conferences will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

This month your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase books through the international Scholastic Book Clubs. This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library. With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of your children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is January 25th. The books will arrive to school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase date

It is hard to believe that the 100th day of school is quickly approaching and so it is time for us to start planning the festivities. This exciting day is going to be on Thursay, January 28th. For this, we would like for you to help your child come dressed with a “100 day of school project.”  Some items that you may want to use are pennies, cotton balls, q-tips, dot stickers, legos, popsicle sticks, wiggly eyes, buttons, etc. The following pictures are just examples of what you can come up with:
