Week of Jan. 25-29

Dear Parents,

This week we will begin working and learning about the rectangle. The vocabulary words we are going to be focusing on are: door, juicebox, wagon, flag, book, laptop, cellphone, table, tv, and bed.

If you have any items at home that are with the shape of a rectangle, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday, Jan. 29th. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Pat-a-Cake”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In Social Studies we will continue the unit about Community Helpers. We are going to be discussing the different types of occupations. Children will get the chance to name them and know where each of these people can be found such as hospitals, fire station, police station. They will also be learning what tools these people need for their occupation. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: chef, doctor, vet, policeman, fireman, nurse, teacher, bus driver, farmer. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

To close our Community Helpers Unit we are planning on a Show and Tell Presentation that will be on Friday, February 5. Each child will be assigned with an occupation, they will have to answer the following questions. "What do I do?" "How do I transport?" "What tools do I use?" "Where do I work?" Children should come dressed as the community helper that they have been assinged. We are NOT demanding an expensive or fancy suit, it is up to you how and what you are going to use. Children should also bring a poster illustrating the questions, this will be a help while they present.
