April 03rd -06th

Dear Parents,

We hope you all have had a wonderful Semana Santa / Easter break! We hope this break has helped us all re-charged our batteries and enthusiastically begin the last portion of this school year.

This week we are going to continue working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound. The letter for this week  will be the letter Bb. The vocabulary for this letter is: bear, boy, bat, ball, bee.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the books we are going to be reading this week are the following:

This is a rather lengthy book, but it captured the imagination of my Four, who requested it many times.  Three bear siblings – Charlie, Dash, and Theo – have broken their mother’s special seashell.  Without telling her, they set sail to find a replacement.  Breathtaking illustrations capture the bears’ journey.  You’ll appreciate the subtle references that only adults will get.  There’s also a nice little lesson about accepting responsibility.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. This week we will be working with number 2.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Once I Caught a Fish Alive”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In our Science unit we will be learning about Ocean Animals. We are going to be discussing the different types of ocean animals. Children will get the chance to name them and identify creatures that live under the sea. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: shark, whale, jellyfish, crab, clown fish, dolphin, octopus, sea horse, turtle, stingray. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. Please provide your child with a water bottle every day. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms.

This week’s Challenge at Home will be listening to songs that focus on the sound and vocabulary for letter b.
