Week of April 4-8

Dear Nursery Parents,

This week we are going to continue working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound. The letter for this week we will be the letter Cc. The vocabulary for this letter is: car, cat, cupcake, carrot, cookie

The following link has the vocabulary of the vocabulary of the letter c for you to practice at home.  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1bFx4O74Zt07xAg9-3zdAOLUWlMTdrtEuLYPjn_VaugQ/edit?usp=sharing

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the books we are going to be reading this week are the following:

If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, by Laura Numeroff This is another title in the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series. While this one feels a bit more contrived than others in the series, the pictures and story are still irresistible.  If you give a cat a cupcake, he’s going to want sprinkles to go with it… and on the story goes.

Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina is one that I’ve had in my “library” for many years. Every child or class I’ve read it to has greatly enjoyed the story. As the peddler naps, some monkeys take his stack of hats. Will he get them back and how? I love how interactive the story can be and how it can teach about emotions.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. This week we will be working with number 3.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “Alice the Camel”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In our Science unit we will be continue learning about Ocean Animals. We are going to be discussing the different types of ocean animals. Children will get the chance to name them and identify creatures that live under the sea. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: shark, whale, jellyfish, crab, clown fish, dolphin, octopus, sea horse, turtle, stingray. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

On Monday, April 4th Nursery will be having a birthday celebration at Snack time. You do not need to pack snack for your child on this day. Drinks, pizza and cake will be provided for the students.

MOTRICITY CLASS- We will be building a pair of  tin can stilts (zancos). You may start looking for 2 clean and empty tin cans of the same size and two pieces of rope that are as long as your child's height up to his or her shoulder. We will start using them on Tuesday April the 12th. Please make sure your child has its own pair by that date.

NUESTROS PEQUEÑOS HERMANOS BAKE SALE – NPH (the school’s community service club) will be having a bake sale on Friday, April 1. Delicious baked goods will be sold during snack and lunch. Do not forget to bring money.

FAMILY NIGHT: The DPTO invites you to its annual family and movie night!

This week’s Challenge at Home will be listening to songs that focus on the sound and vocabulary for letter c.
