Week of April 18-22

Dear Nursery Parents,
This week we are going to continue working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound. The letter for this week we will be the letter Ee. The vocabulary for this letter is: elephant, egg, envelope, elbow, elf

The following link has the vocabulary of the vocabulary of the letter e for you to practice at home.

If you have any items at home that begin with this letter, send them over with your child and we will be discussing them in class, we will display them on a table and we will return them back on Friday. The kids get excited to bring things from home.

Some of the books we are going to be reading this week are the following:

The Little Engine That Could, by Watty Piper
Did you know that this classic story is over a hundred years old?  When the train full of toys and food for the little children can’t get over the mountain, it asks for help.  All the big trains turn up their noses, but the little blue engine gives it a try. “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…”  This book is often used to show the power of positive thinking. We just like the fun, colorful story.

An Extraordinary Egg, by Leo Lionni, is the tale of three frogs who live together on Pebble Island. One frog, Jessica, loves to explore and bring back pretty rocks to show her friends. One day she brings back an especially beautiful stone, only to discover that it’s an egg. Since they are familiar only with chicken eggs, the frogs call the baby alligator a chicken throughout the story, which will delight small children.  Jessica and the baby “chicken” become good friends, and the baby is reunited with its mother at the end of the book.

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. This week we will be working with number 5.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “This Old Man”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

We have talked to the students that we have started the hot season in Honduras. Please provide your child with a water bottle every day. Have them wear light clothes; they can bring a hat to protect from the sun, put sunscreen on their face and arms

In our Science unit we will continue learning about Zoo Animals. We are going to be discussing the different types of zoo animals. Children will get the chance to name them and identify creatures that we can find in a zoo. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: elephant, tiger, lion, hippo, crocodile, zebra, gorilla, giraffe, snake, monkey . If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

This week’s Challenge at Home will be listening to songs that focus on the sound and vocabulary for letter e and also review abc phonics song. Children know most of the moves to do along with this phonic song.
