Week of May 2-6

Dear Nursery Parents,
This week we are going to continue working with the alphabet. We will be working on recognizing the letters with their sound. We will be reviewing letters A-F and working on ABC’s Phonics songs.

Some of the books we are going to be reading this week are the following:
There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly, illustrated by Simms Taback
We like this version of the classic childhood song that every kid should know.  It’s a silly song, but that’s what makes it so appealing.

Shoo Fly! by Iza Trapani
Snatch up any picture books you see by Iza Trapani. We just love them!  In each of her books she takes a familiar song and adds verses with her own unique illustrations.  My kids can’t get enough of this one, and I love to sing it!

In math, will continue working with numbers. We will work on how to represent and recognize numbers using tally marks, ten frames, name of the number, one-to-one correspondence. This week we will be working with number 6.

Our Nursery Rhyme this week is: “1,2 buckle my shoe”
I am attaching you the link of the video of this song we will be learning throughout the week. We will learn two versions of this nursery rhyme. Just a little tip to have fun at home listening and acting out our song.

In our Science unit we will continue learning about Insects. We are going to be discussing the different types of insects. Children will get the chance to name them and identify different kinds of insects. Some of the vocabulary words we will be focusing are: bee, ant, mosquito, spider, butterfly, caterpillar, ladybug, grasshopper, dragonfly, fly. If you have any books or posters, ideas or any other material that you would like to share with us it would be greatly appreciated.

In Honduras we celebrate Mother’s Day on May 8th. We would like to invite all of our MOMMIES to have Muffins with your child on Friday May 6th at 8:00 a.m. We are planning on having something nice prepared for you. We hope you can come and spend some time with your child at school.  We would like to ask our wonderful DADDIES to kindly help us with Lps. 150.00 for Mother’s Day gift. If you already send the money we appreciate it., if you haven't PLEASE do so as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.
We are also asking to please dress your child this day with a tropical colors or hawaiian clothes. Please use whatever you have at home. It is up to you if you would like to buy it. Girls with shirt and skirt or a dress. Boys with shorts and a shirt. here are some pictures for ideas.

Both camps will run from June 13 to July 1, with the same schedule (8:00 a.m. to 12:00). Transportation is available at a small additional cost. If you or a relative/friend is interested, more information can be given to you by Ms. Carolina or at the accounting offices in school.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON MAY 14 - The Discovery School’s third General Assembly meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the school's cafeteria.  There will be 4 vacancies on the Board of Directors. The reward of an “ice cream day” will be offered to the elementary and secondary group with best attendance resulting in a quorum.
ART EXHIBIT AND MUSIC PERFORMANCES – Also on Saturday we will be having our annual Art Exhibit.

CHILD SUPERVISED ACTIVITIES FOR THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY – In order to help our parents attend the General Assembly, the school is providing supervised activities in the Early Childhood area for those parents who would like to bring their children to school. There will be movies, arts & crafts, board games and word games available for those who find child care on Saturday a difficulty!
